PS72

This 55’ x 25’ mural was painted in the PS72 play yard in East Harlem for the NY Department of Health Active Design Mural Program and Creative Artworks. I created this design through a collaborative process with the PS72 8th graders during a six-week long workshop series. Due to Covid-19 restricti0ns, all workshops took place virtually via zoom. During workshops, the youth and I discussed imagery that would encourage kids to interact with the mural and be more active during recess. The youth designed interactive elements of the mural, including a ball toss game, a target, and a challenging hand ball board. The mural also includes actual artwork that the youth apprentices drew themselves, including a soccer goal, a basketball hoop, and a bicycle. Once the design was completed and approved, I sketched and painted it section by section onto polytab cloth. The finished mural was then installed onto the school wall using Novagel adhesive.
