 In Lak’Ech

“In Lak’ Ech” for @akumalartsfestival 2022 in Akumal, Mexico. “The earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.” - chief Seattle

The reference photo I used for this mural is of my mother-in-law, Rosa Flora Choque Martínez, sharing a moment with Aurora, a yellow crowned parrot from the Amazon of Peru. They are surrounded by textiles from South America, Mexico, and Europe; the spiral, an important symbol for pre Hispanic cultures across Latin America but especially the people of Quíntana- Roo; and the Agave plant.
